Did Obama Have Anything To Do With The Missing Washington Times Editorial On Banning The Pilot Gun Program?

I was surprised when I went to find an article that had been posted on the Washington Times website just a week ago, to find it now gone. Normally, I would not post the writings in their entirety, but due to these circumstances, it is necessary.

The now missing writing, which had told of Obama having secretively banned a federal safety program that aloud pilots to carry guns on planes, was a rarity to have found on a main-stream news site. The website, just a week later, posted a sharply contrasting article, stating that the Obama administration has no plans of ending the program and instead, is seeking to expand it. So what gives?

An inside source, an editor for the Washington Times confirmed that the editorial had, in fact, been written by a Washington Times staff member and was removed. He said it was “a decision made by the top levels.” In response to my question as to if the removal had anything to do with Obama, he said that he did not know, saying it was “pretty rare that it involved the top editors and the publisher of the newspaper.”

Summary

This 10 Dec 2006 document is a study by the US Air Force that describes significant health risks to personnel who have been stationed at Balad Air Base, Iraq and the surrounding population. Our source states the that the military has denied any adverse health risks to soldiers, but the study clearly describes substantial health risks to soldiers, with the majority of the risks being known cancer causing hazards.

The study describes the Balard Burn Pit as the worst environmental hazard ever seen.

By Nora Eisenberg (AlterNet)[1]

Six years into the war, many U.S. bases in Iraq are still without incinerators, leaving open pits spewing toxic plumes over soldiers and civilians.

Acetaldehyde, Acrolien, Arsenic, Benzene, Carbon Monoxide, Ethylbenzene, Formaldehyde, Hydrogen Cyanide, Hydrogen Fluoride, Phosgene, Sulfur Dioxide, Sulfuric Acid, Toluene, Trichloroethane, Xylene. These are just some of the chemicals detected in smoke from the Balad Burn Pit, one of the many vast open pits spewing toxic plumes over Iraq and Afghanistan.

But not to worry; In “Just the Facts,” an information sheet for troops, the Department of Defense has stated that “the potential short- and long-term risks” from Balad “were estimated to be low.” (Documents prove they knowingly lied) The VA has just announced it will monitor reports of veterans’ pit-related illness. But the DoD has yet to declassify old air sample reports or issue current findings.

Why House Committee wanted Rove behind closed doors

The House Judiciary Committee chose to interview former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove behind closed doors because they wanted more time to question him, and not as a concession to Bush Administration representatives, sources say.

“It was our choice,” one House Judiciary aide told Raw Story.

According to two Judiciary Committee aides, the committee opted for the private testimony so that they could depose Rove for an extended period of time. During a public hearing, each committee member would have only a few minutes to ask questions.

“We could question him for 12 hours if we choose to,” said one of the aides.

Both aides confirmed that Rove would not be sworn in before his testimony but explained that testimony before Congress is de facto sworn testimony and any false statements would in fact be perjury regardless.
