DALLAS (AP) — A police officer was placed on administrative leave Thursday over a traffic stop involving an NFL player whom he kept in a hospital parking lot and threatened to arrest while his mother-in-law died inside the building.

Officer Robert Powell also drew his gun during the March 18 incident involving Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats in the Dallas suburb of Plano, police said.

“I can screw you over,” he said at one point in the videotaped incident. When another officer came with word that Moats’ mother-in-law was indeed dying, Powell’s response was: “All right. I’m almost done.”

Grovetown, GA—Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigators were back at a home on Hot Springs Drive in Columbia County, Thursday morning. It was the scene of a vicious attack. Authorities say 41-year-old Laverne Parsons was beaten after she interrupted a buglary, Wednesday morning. The attack happened in her garage, in the Orchard Hill subdivision.

Parsons died Thursday, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Captain Steve Morris, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office: “We have some leads we’re following. We have our suspicions, but quite frankly, we need some help. We’re nowhere near closure in this case, we know that there’s at least one person, possibly more, that know something about this case, and we need a phone call.“

Wednesday, investigators canvassed the neighborhood and talked to neighbors, hoping they saw something out of the ordinary.

The home’s back door was forced open, and investigators say the home next door was also burglarized.

They have not determined what, if anything, was taken from either home, but Captain Morris says they have solid evidence linking both burglaries…

Captain Morris: “This whole incident is unusual, not only for this neighborhood, but for Columbia County, in general, but having said that, we’ve had those same conversations. It is unusual. In most cases, it seems burglaries that are interrupted…the suspects flee on foot. They do not want confrontation.“

Captain Morris says family members and neighbors will be questioned. He says all leads will be followed…and a command station set up at the home will remain there for at least a few more days.

WJBF News channel 6 will continue to monitor developments in this case. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Five Flights Reported Laser Beams This Month

SEATAC, WA. — Once again a laser reportedly has been shined into a plane landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Airport spokesman Terri Ann Betancourt tells KOMO Television the report comes from pilots on Alaska Airlines Flight 487 from San Diego. They say a laser was flashed into the cockpit shortly before a safe landing at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Betancourt says investigators believe it came from about 2 miles north and slightly west of the airport, near the source of previous laser reports.

Pilots on five flights reported laser beams earlier this month, four on the same night. A dozen laser reports were filed on Feb. 22.

On March 6, 24-year-old Christopher Charles Saunders of Burien was arrested in the laser case. He was later released and no charges have been filed.

HEBRON - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport on Monday seized an arriving international shipment of 60 pump action 12-gauge shotguns and 177 pistols masked as toys.

It was the largest seizure of weapons made by CBP in Cincinnati.

The shipment, marked as “Toys,” was valued at $14,000 and was shipped from Istanbul, Turkey.

CBP officers targeted the merchandise for an intensive examination and upon physical inspection of the 25-box shipment found the guns. The shotguns were encased in Styrofoam molding and individually packaged in 12 large boxes, according to a press release from the CBP. The pistols were shipped within hard plastic gun storage cases packed inside 13 large cardboard boxes. The guns were destined for a business located in Kentucky.

“I think this is a fine example of the federal partnerships in place between CBP working with other government agencies, in this case, ATF and the Department of Commerce to help secure our borders and protect the American public from harm,” said David Murphy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection director of field operations in Chicago, in a written statement. “The detection and seizure of these firearms is the direct result of attentive and diligent work by CBP officers.”

No arrests have been made in this case, however, the investigation concerning this shipment continues.

All firearms seized were turned over to CBP Fines, Penalties and Forfeitures for future forfeiture proceedings and disposal determination.
