Originally introduced and passed in Montana, the FFA declares that any firearms made and retained in-state are beyond the authority of Congress under its constitutional power to regulate commerce among the states.

Since its passage in Montana, a clone of the Firearms Freedom Act has been enacted in Tennessee, and has been introduced in the legislatures of Alaska, Texas, South Carolina, Minnesota and Florida. Legislators in many other states have announced that they will introduce FFA clones when their legislatures next convene.

The FFA is primarily a Tenth Amendment challenge to the powers of Congress under the “commerce clause,” with firearms as the object – it is a state’s rights exercise.

NEW YORK — New York’s iconic Empire State Building will light up red and yellow Wednesday in honor of the 60th anniversary of communist China.

The Chinese consul, Peng Keyu, and other officials will take part in the lighting ceremony which will bathe the skyscraper in the colors of the People’s Republic until Thursday, Empire State Building representatives said in a statement.

A private security force whose biggest role is helping the U.S. government to “combat terrorism” is now patrolling the streets of a town in Montana, acting as law enforcement but accountable to nobody and operating completely outside the limitations of the U.S. constitution in a chilling throwback to the brownshirts of Nazi Germany.

The American Police Force organization is a paramilitary unit that “provides surveillance, investigative, and military services across the world,” according to its website, which shows men dressed in military fatigues carrying machine guns.

A small Obion County Tennessee town is preparing for a 101st airborne assault. On Tuesday Sept. 29, 2009.

The “assault” is a training exercise for the famed Screaming Eagles. Residents of Troy have been told that they shouldn’t be alarmed when soldiers start dropping in from above. Fort Campbell officials say the training will help the soldiers, many of whom have regularly deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, prepare for real-world, combat scenarios.(Like for the upcoming state of Martial Law)

Bracing for two types of influenza this flu season, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and its many partners today officially kicked off a campaign to encourage the public to get vaccinated against the seasonal and H1N1 flu.

“The County of San Diego wants you to be ready. This year we are dealing with two types of flu: seasonal flu and H1N1 influenza,” said Supervisor Ron Roberts at a Flu Kick Off event at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center in Skyline.

The event was organized by the San Diego Black Nurses Association, AARP, San Diego Metro Chapter 4916, the San Diego Immunization Coalition, and HHSA.

Al Qaeda released a 106-minute Arabic language video Tuesday titled “The West… and The Dark Tunnel” featuring Al Qaeda’s second in command Ayman al-Zawahiri predicting the downfall of Barack Obama.

During the documentary-style video to mark the ninth anniversary of the attacks of September 11, Al Qaeda leaders comment on events in the past year such as the U.S. presidential elections, the global financial meltdown, and the latest on jihadist movements around the world.

“America has come in a new, hypocritical face. Smiling at us, but stabbing us with the same dagger that Bush used,” said Zawahiri in the message.

“God willing, your end will be at the hands of the Muslim nation, so that the world and history will be free of your crimes and lies,” he said addressing Obama at the end of the two-part video.

The mainstream media and even alternative media has failed to report some serious actions in Pittsburgh at the G20 summit.To begin with ADS (Active Denial Weapons) sound cannons and LRADS (Microwave weapons) have been used against protesters. prior to the escalation of the mass acts of vandalism and more.

1.On 09-24-09 a bank was stormed windows smashed out ,and police backup was called.

2. Police were detaining in another incident protesters against a wall and a large number of others outnumbering the cops put pressure on them to release them and they did.

3. Approx 80 police officers were surrounded by a couple hundred protesters and a call for back up went out at around 5:25 pm est. The back up had extreme difficulty getting through en route due to other groups delaying them.

4. Also on the tactical police channel there was communications referencing pipe bombs and some explosions as well.We at this time dont no if any injuries or amount of damage has occurred in ref to this at this time.

5. Low flying un-authorized aircraft on the morning of 09-24-09.

6.Some gun shots at officers also reported on radio traffic too.

7.Fires set on some bridge early this morning military units were called out to investigate and fire dept units sent with police escorts.

8. Large dumpsters turned over and some set on fire too.

A group organized to resist the forthcoming G-20 summit in Pittsburgh announced plans for an unsanctioned mass march from Lawrenceville to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on the first day of the meeting, setting up the possibility of a clash with police.

The group, calling itself the Pittsburgh G-20 Resistance Project, is declaring a “People’s Uprising, a Sept. 24 mass march to disrupt the G-20 summit,” according to a statement on its Web site.

The group, which is likely to include a coalition of anarchists and other self-described “anti-authoritarians,” has called for a variety of “autonomous actions,” or efforts to attack various locations they view as symbols of global capitalism.

The news release came as lawyers for several other groups asked a federal court to order the City of Pittsburgh to allow protesters to use two city parks for camping and “tent cities” and to grant a permit for a march organized by a coalition of groups that have no announced plans to disrupt the G-20.

Such actions would be the first sizable test of such groups since last September, when plans to disrupt the Republican National Convention were themselves disrupted after anarchist groups were infiltrated by state and federal agents. Eight presumed leaders of the planned disruptions were arrested prior to the beginning of the convention.

A G-20 meeting in London in April included extensive rioting and ended in the death of one man after he was beaten by police.

“While protesters plan to march on the summit, the Pittsburgh police have made clear their intent to fulfill their historical role of protecting the interests of the rich and powerful over those of workers and the oppressed,” the statement by the Resistance Project said.

In a move raising eyebrows among civil liberties advocates, the Department of Homeland Security announced Monday that it would give so-called local and state “fusion centers” access to classified military intelligence in Pentagon databases.

Fusion centers are hubs for local law enforcement, the private sector and the intelligence community, and were created in an effort to fight terrorism. There are more than seventy known centers across the United States.

The decision to give fusion centers access to classified intelligence appears to a shift in policy by Homeland Security. In July, Secretary Janet Napolitano “that fusion centers were not intended to have a military presence, and that she was not aware of ones that did,” according to the New York Times.

The centers have been a flash point of criticism from civil liberties groups. The American Civil Liberties Union, in particular, has been a vehement critic.

“As fusion centers gain more and more access to Americans’ private information, the information about them being made available to the American public remains woefully inadequate,” Michael Macleod-Ball, Acting Director of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office, said in a statement. “There is a stunning lack of oversight at these fusion centers and, as we’ve seen, these centers are rapidly becoming a breeding ground for overzealous intelligence activities. Opening the door for domestic law enforcement to gain access to classified military intelligence coupled with no guidelines restricting the military’s role in fusion centers is a recipe for disaster.”

WASHINGTON,(UPI) — The Obama administration has told Congress the Patriot Act, which outlines U.S. government surveillance methods, should be renewed but could be tweaked.

In a letter sent by the Justice Department to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the administration recommended swift action on the legislation but added that the administration was “willing to consider” additional privacy safeguards so long as they don’t “undermine the effectiveness of these important authorities,” The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

Three provisions due to expire Dec. 31 allow investigators to use roving wiretaps to monitor terror suspects, obtain business records of national security targets and track “lone wolves” who may be acting alone on behalf of foreign powers or terrorist groups, the Post said. The government hasn’t used the lone wolf provision but department officials said they want to make sure they can in the future if needed.

Wiretapping and surveillance became politically charged during the George W. Bush administration after The New York Times revealed a years-long secret electronic monitoring program gathered sensitive information without court approval.

Leaders of the House and Senate Judiciary committees have scheduled hearings on reauthorizing the Patriot Act’s expiring provisions for next week.

Sens. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., and Richard Durbin, D-Ill., said they will introduce a bill that would enhance privacy safeguards.

“We must take this opportunity to get it right, once and for all,” the senators said in a joint statement.

Pittsburgh City Council balked at giving final approval today to legislation that could give police new powers in advance of anticipated G-20 Summit protests, putting the matter off until tomorrow.

Council members said they have not gotten clear responses from Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s administration to concerns they’ve had with the proposed ordinance allowing police to cite people for having an array of items if they detect intent to defy a crowd dispersal order.

“No piece has garnered more controversy in terms of the G-20 than these two public safety pieces,” said Councilman Bruce Kraus, referring to both the bill on items and a similar proposal on masks, which was defeated. “These bills, in my opinion, have not received resounding support, nor engagement, from the administration.”

Council was set to cast a final vote on the legislation on items, but instead pushed it back until tomorrow, just eight days before the start of the summit at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The vote to postpone was 7-2, with the two no votes — Council President Doug Shields and William Peduto — arguing for voting the matter down entirely.

“We have laws on the books,” said Councilwoman Tonya Payne. “If people don’t follow the laws, we have law enforcement to deal with that.”

Before today’s action, council removed from the legislation a reference to a defunct assault weapons ban. The inclusion of references to “contraband weapon[s]” had upset gun rights advocates, who viewed it as a stealth attempt to ban high-powered weapons. But left in were bans on carrying pipes, handcuffs, chains, carabiners, padlocks, noxious or toxic substances, gas masks, projectile launchers, human or animal waste or blood, rotten eggs, acid, gasoline, gases or sprays, and alcohol if there is intent to use it to thwart crowd control.

“You can walk Downtown during the G-20 with a gun hidden under your coat, but you will not be allowed to walk around with a piece of PVC pipe,” said Mr. Peduto. “It’s a way to quell speech.”

Legislation to allow police to cite people for wearing masks or hoods to conceal their identities with the intent of committing a crime got just two yes votes — from Ricky Burgess and Jim Motznik — and seven no votes, meaning it is defeated finally. That prompted cheers from audience members who identified themselves as likely protesters during the G-20 Summit next week.

Actor Patrick Swayze died today after a 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer his publicist confirmed to ABC News. He was 57.

“Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months,” his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement released Monday evening.

Patrick Swayze’s wife Lisa told ABC that she and his brother Donny Swayze, were by his side when he died at his ranch on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Swayze, best known for starring in the blockbuster films “Red Dawn” “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost,” was diagnosed with cancer in January 2008, but outlived the prognosis of just several months he received.

State Republican lawmaker Tommy Benton (31st House District) favors “caning” minor marijuana offenders and “executing” those who sell the drug, according to a recent correspondence sent by the representative to a constituent.

In a July 29, 2009 e-mail (which was voluntarily forwarded to the NORML office), Rep. Benton wrote: “Thanks for the email. We will have to agree to disagree on this and whether or not money is wasted (by mandating the state to prosecute minor marijuana offenders). I am opposed to the legalization of marijuana. I think we should go to caning for people caught using and maybe execute dealers. [emphasis NORML’s] That would solve the problem as well. That is what they do in Singapore and they don’t have a drug problem.”

Caning is a form of corporal punishment consisting of up to 24 violent lashes with a long rattan cane that has been soaked in water. The procedure inflicts intense pain and deep, bloody lacerations that can take several months to heal.

Rep. Benton followed up his remarks in a separate e-mail on August 11 (also forwarded to NORML) in which he threatened to turn over the names of citizens who disagreed with his political viewpoints to local law enforcement.

He wrote: “You and your cronies want it (marijuana) legalized so you can get a hit anytime without having to worry about getting arrested. I have forwarded your email to the Lowndes County sheriffs [sic] office so that they can be on the lookout for you. [emphasis NORML’s] Consider this my last correspondence on the the [sic] subject to you or anyone else who shares your similar “conservative views’.”
