The bans are part of the much-acclaimed “clean trucks” initiative that authorities say has already cut toxic emissions about 70% since its introduction in October 2008 at the nation’s busiest harbor complex. Parallel state clean-air regulations also go into effect Jan. 1.

In a little-noticed interview last week, Lou Dobbs announced that he now supports amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

Sheriff’s official: Gunman opened fire in ‘execution’-style attack
PARKLAND, Wash. - A gunman walked into a coffee shop and shot and killed four police officers Sunday morning in what sheriff’s officials described as a targeted “execution.”
The officers were sitting in the cafe at a strip mall near the Tacoma suburb of Parkland with their laptop computers, preparing for their day shifts, when a man came in and opened fire, Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
The officers were obviously targeted because they were in full uniform, their marked patrol cars were parked outside and no one else was shot at, Troyer said.

To get his movie viewed, film festivals are his next focus. Townsend’s in the process of applying to several national film festivals and he’s confident he’ll get in.
“I think this film is strong. I think it’s different. I think the ending itself is extremely compelling and I think that people will be in shock when they get to the end of it,” said Townsend.
The young movie maker says he isn’t looking to be famous or get attention.
“There is a lesson in this film. It’s not just all kill Obama, kill Obama, kill Obama. It’s a love story and it has a deep meaningful lesson to it,” said Townsend.
He hopes you’ll be able to see his story on the big screen sometime next year.
WICKENBURG, Ariz. - A Salvadoran man faces several charges after pulling out a grenade during a traffic stop in a Wickenburg parking lot. Authorities say 37-year-old Jose Santos Cruz was stopped Saturday for driving erratically on U.S. 60. He pulled into a McDonald’s parking lot and got out of the vehicle. As he turned his back to the officer, he reached into his waistband and pulled out a hand grenade.
The officer subdued Cruz and the grenade fell to the ground.
The area was cordoned off, but the grenade turned out to be inert.
A check of the vehicle showed it and the license plate had been stolen in the Phoenix area.
Cruz faces charges that include driving while under the influence and aggravated assault on a police officer.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say five explosives in plastic bottles containing hydrochloric acid were found early Wednesday (11-26-09) in and around a Northern Arizona University dormitory.
Flagstaff Fire Department spokesman Mark Johnson says no students were injured.
Johnson says a university police officer was taken to a local hospital as a precaution after she inhaled fumes from an explosive that went off in a dorm hallway.
NAU spokesman Tom Bauer says authorities were notified of a firecracker-like sound at Mountain View dorm.
Johnson says a second explosive found leaning on the door of a dorm room was neutralized.
Flagstaff police detonated a third explosive outside and two others went off causing no damage.
Bauer says no one has been arrested. University police are investigating the incident as a criminal matter.

A Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer is facing accusations of brutality after a video showing him pushing an unruly man through a plate-glass window went viral over the weekend.
Police in Oakland, California, have charged Michael Joseph Gibson with felony battery of a police officer, obstructing and resisting an officer, disorderly conduct and public intoxication after a BART officer pulled him off a train at a stop and pushed him into a plate glass window.
Both Gibson and the officer — whose name has not been released — were injured in the incident.
Gibson’s sister, Lisa Gibson, told CNN that her brother suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and had recently been released from hospital. She told the news network she doesn’t believe her brother was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
CNN quoted her as saying that the officer in question “shouldn’t have a job” because he has “no integrity” and a “combative mindset.”

Police: Census worker made death look like homicide to get money
FRANKFORT — A part-time U.S. Census worker found dead near a secluded Clay County cemetery killed himself but tried to make the death look like a murder, authorities have concluded.
Bill Sparkman, 51, of London, apparently was trying to preserve payments under life insurance policies he had taken out, one as recently as May, which paid benefits if he died as a result of murder or accident, but not suicide or natural causes, police said.
Sparkman had survived a bout with cancer a few years ago, but he told a friend he believed the cancer had returned and that he would die, police said.
However, there was no indication Sparkman’s cancer had recurred, said Cristin Rolf, deputy state medical examiner.
In a two-month investigation, police marshaled a number of reasons to conclude Sparkman ended his own life.

In any case, Army Times reported that “A box of hollow-point bullets and an anonymous note threatening an incident like the one at Fort Hood, Texas, were discovered Thursday at Fort Benning, Ga., sparking a criminal investigation and greater police presence, a witness told Army Times.
“According to a witness at the scene, a box of 20 hollow-point shells and a handwritten note were found in the motor pool area between 1st Battalion and 2nd Battalion, 29th Infantry, under the 197th Infantry Training Brigade.” FYI, a hollow-point bullet has a pit or hollowed top so it mushrooms out as it enters the target and disrupts more tissue.
The note continued “tell the commanding general to call off all charges or there will be a re-enactment of Fort Hood,’ ”

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have taken over the investigation of two Molotov cocktails found outside a building Thursday morning 11-19-2009
The incident occurred in the 1700 block of Defoor Avenue.
The Atlanta police SWAT team was sent to an address after an Atlanta Police officer was flagged down by a resident and advised the officer that he observed two bottles of what appeared to be molotov cocktails full of an unknown liquid near the front porch, said Eric Schwartz, Atlanta police spokesman.
Atlanta Fire Dept along with the ATF, FBI and the Atlanta SWAT responded to the scene and conducted the investigation on the suspicious items.
Police reportedly do not have any suspects and no injuries have been reported.

Pope claimed that they had to wait nearly an hour for their order and that she had to get napkins and silverware for the table herself.
“At this point I became very annoyed because I had already gone up to the bar myself to have my soda refilled because the waitress never came back,” Pope said.
After the $73 bill came, the group paid for food, drinks, and tax but refused to pay the tip. After explaining the bad service to the bartender in charge, Pope claimed he took their money and called police. The couple was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car.
