CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Suspected drug hitmen burst into a party and killed 13 people, most of them teenagers, on Sunday in Ciudad Juarez, the latest massacre in one of the world’s deadliest cities, Mexican media said. Gunmen jumped out of sport utility vehicles and fired at people in a house in the city across border from El Paso, Texas, in the early hours of Sunday, newspapers El Diario and Reforma said. Police and officials in Ciudad Juarez confirmed the shooting but declined to give more details. Ciudad Juarez is the bloodiest city in Mexico’s drug war as rival cartels fight over markets and control of smuggling routes into the United States. Gunmen have stormed at least seven drug rehabilitation clinics in the manufacturing city over the past two years in attacks that target rival dealers. Two strikes in September killed 28 people. Mexico is the key transit route for U.S.-bound cocaine from South America and a top producer of marijuana and heroin. A military crackdown on rival cartels in Mexico has fueled a surge in drug violence that has killed more than 17,000 people over the past three years.

Michael Mancini, a father of two, said he put the handbrake on before wiping his nose but was asked to pull over by officers who were standing nearby.

”The traffic moved on and I was waved across by an officer.

”He said I was not in control of the vehicle.”

Mr Mancini went on: ”I was absolutely stunned.

”I said to the officer ‘You’re joking, you’re having a laugh’.

Are these truly the only role models we have to offer our impressionable youth? Granted, it can be morbidly entertaining to watch these celebrities travel down their blazing paths of self-destruction, but can we not find better people for our children to look up to? Or ourselves, for that matter?
  I remember when I was growing up, two of my heroes were Cindi Lauper and Madonna. All that ever got me was a gravity-defying hairdo and some really scary wardrobe choices. For all of you not suffering from arthritis…I’m referring to pop idols of the 1980’s.

Miles said he resisted because he thought the men were trying to abduct him and didn’t identify themselves as police.(They were in plainclothes). Miles’ family and attorney said he was hit with a stun gun and hospitalized after the violent Homewood struggle during which a chunk of his hair was yanked out and a tree branch went through his gums.”I was accused for something I never had anything to do with,” said Miles, an honor student at CAPA. “I was completely innocent. They couldn’t find anything.”Police took Miles to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. The student said he had to go back after he was released from custody.”I want my son’s life restored, that’s all,” said Miles’ mother, Terez Miles. “I just want his life to go back to the way that it was before.”City officials are conducting a full investigation, spokeswoman Diane Richard told Channel 11 News.Reportedly the officers identified themselves as police. According to officials, the officers have been moved from plain clothes detail to uniformed duty.

APPOMATTOX, VA. — Eight people were fatally shot by a lone gunman Tuesday, according to Virginia State Police, in what a spokesman for Gov. Robert F. McDonnell called “a horrific tragedy.”
Authorities said they had a “possible suspect” surrounded late Tuesday night in woods near where the shootings occurred. Early in the search, at least four shots apparently fired by the suspect disabled a State Police helicopter as it flew overhead.

The building was evacuated at about 8 a.m. and was reopened by 8:45 a.m. Roughly 24 state employees were affected, Harris said. The package was from a person who had been routinely sending “disturbing” correspondence from out-of-state, Harris said. The letters are always addressed to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, he said, and the language generally is “vaguely threatening.” So when a package came into the mail room from the same person, employees called police.
