At least three single-engine planes violated a temporarily restricted flight area apparently set up over the area this past weekend for President Barack Obama’s return to Chicago, according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Maj. Mike Humphreys declined to say specifically that the restricted area was being enforced for the president’s visit but said that, in general, the zones are put in place for various reasons including “POTUS movements.”
“It’s not so unusual that these incidents occur,” he said. In most cases the incursions are accidents, “but we have to be ready every time.”
In the most recent incident — which was posted on NORAD’s Facebook and Twitter pages — a Cessna 152 flew about two miles into the restricted space about 8:55 p.m. Sunday before two F-15 fighter jets and an HH-65 Dolphin Coast Guard helicopter intercepted the plane and escorted it to the Lewis University Airport in Romeoville. Falcon Lake is famous for its monster bass and for the maniacal obsession of the fishermen who come from all over Texas — and the world — to stalk them. Now this remote reservoir that straddles the international boundary is known for something else: pirates.
In the past month, crews of outlaws in a small armada of banged-up skiffs and high-powered bass boats launched from the Mexican shore have ambushed bass anglers from the Texas side innocently casting their plastic worms over favorite spots. The buccaneers have struck in Mexican waters but within sight of the Texas shore.
Dressed in black, the pirates brandish automatic weapons, carry radio cellphones and board the anglers’ boats. They demand weapons or drugs from their captives, but finding neither, seem satisfied with taking $400 or $500 as booty, according to law enforcement officials and victims’ accounts. This behavior, of course, should be met by a barrage of hellfire missiles just to clarify which side in this dispute is actually a superpower. (more…)

Thousands of census workers, including many temporary employees, are fanning out across America to gather information on the citizenry. This is a process that takes place not only every decade in order to complete the constitutionally-mandated census; but also as part of the continuing “American Community Survey” conducted by the Census Bureau on a regular basis year in and year out.
What many Americans don’t realize, is that census workers — from the head of the Bureau and the Secretary of Commerce (its parent agency) down to the lowliest and newest Census employee — are empowered under federal law to actually demand access to any apartment or any other type of home or room that is rented out, in order to count persons in the abode and for “the collection of statistics.” If the landlord of such apartment or other leased premises refuses to grant the government worker access to your living quarters, whether you are present or not, the landlord can be fined $500.00.
That’s right — not only can citizens be fined if they fail to answer the increasingly intrusive questions asked of them by the federal government under the guise of simply counting the number of people in the country; but a landlord must give them access to your apartment whether you’re there or not, in order to gather whatever “statistics” the law permits.
In fact, some census workers apparently are going even further and demanding — and receiving — private cell phone numbers from landlords in order to call tenants and obtain information from them. Isn’t it great to live in a “free” country?

We cannot argue with any part of the Bible any more than we can argue with God himself! God has “laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed” (Psalm 119:4). If we disobey, we will surely fail (Matthew 7:24-25).
We must make sure that whatever we do in any department of life, including the use of force, conforms to the truth and moral principles of the Bible.
Before we can rightly consider arming and organizing ourselves as a militia, we must consider whether or not doing so is the right thing to do. Later on we will see that we have the historical and constitutional right to form a militia. But ultimately, right and wrong is determined by God’s will, and God’s will is determined from the Bible. Why turn to the Bible to answer our questions about right and wrong?
If you are a Bible believer, you must be committed to following its moral standards. If you do not believe the Bible, you should still know and weigh what it says and use it to justify your actions to Bible believers.
To answer this question we will briefly look at what the Bible says about its own inspiration, inerrant, sufficiency, and authority. (more…)
AUSTIN — Nine homemade explosives were detonated by a bomb squad Friday morning in a field after finding them in the Rose Creek home of a 47-year-old man, the sheriff says.
Residents from about 10 homes near the man’s residence were evacuated, starting about 8 p.m. Thursday, with the last resident being allowed back about 1 a.m., Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said. Read more click here
“It will save lives”, or so the argument goes. Sending a robot warrior onto the battlefield instead of humans seems like the logical next step in a world moving toward greater efficiency and automation. As I write this, in 2010, fully autonomous killer robots are still in the early trial phase, when scientists are still working out the bugs and lawyers are still clambering over liability issues. A new bill was introduced yesterday by senators Chuck Schumer and John Cornyn that would require prepaid cellphone purchasers to show ID at the time of sale. More than 113 census takers have been the victims of assaults or attacks this month, the U.S. Census Bureau said late Wednesday.
In response to inquiries by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), Census Director Robert Groves said the bureau’s temporary workers knocking on doors to collect information have faced 29 threats involving a gun, four robberies and three instances of
being held against their will or carjacked. Seven workers died in car accidents and one was killed while off duty. The Census Bureau hired about 635,000 people to follow up with people
who did not return questionnaires by the end of April. The process is more than half completed, and is scheduled to continue into July. Bureau officials said the overall pattern and types of incidents are similar to the 2000 census, but cautioned this year’s figures are already much higher than ten years ago and include a mix of news accounts and formal reports to the bureau’s safety office.
The incidents include a census worker carjacked by a 14-year old and a California incident that resulted in the death of a woman.
Twenty-one census workers died on the job between 1998 and 2009, according to agency figures. The attacks come as the agency announced stricter hiring rules on Wednesday after a registered sex offender using an alias got a job as a census taker.

The House Rules Committee Chairman Reps. Gus Blackwell, under the direction of House Speaker Chris Benge, Reps. Ken Miller and Tad Jones, passed last night (5-24-2010) a “Special Rule” that House Resolutions cannot be attached to Bills that are not germane. This is a TOTAL misinterpretation of Section 8.8 of the House Rules. What this does is allow leadership to control every Resolution that they don’t like. The Boston Police bomb squad is heading to the department’s station house on Gibson street to investigate reports that a woman brought a “homemade bomb” into the C-11 station.
Boston police sent out an alert about the situation over its Twitter account.
“BOMB SQUAD responding to District 11 in Dorchester. Female brought home made bomb in to police station,” the department’s tweet said.
A spokeswoman described the item as an “empty Molotov cocktail” and said the bomb squad is still investigating this afternoon. No further details were immediately available. Massachusetts
A 44-year-old Paulsboro resident was arrested Monday for selling homemade explosives to undercover federal agents.
Edwin Swift, of the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. at the Rocking Stone bar on South Delaware Street here after he met a federal agent to make a sale, according to Bernie Weisenfeld, spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office. Monday’s meeting was to be the third time he sold explosives to the agent in the past two months.
During a raid at Swift’s home Monday afternoon, 200 quarter sticks of explosives — the equivalent of quarter sticks of dynamite — were confiscated, Weisenfeld said. Authorities also confiscated another 200 quarter sticks of explosives Swift had brought to the bar on Monday to sell to the federal agent.
Weisenfeld said Swift had “no terrorist link whatsoever.” “He was just selling to local people as a kind of hobby and as a way to make a few dollars,” Weisenfeld added. Swift was charged with three counts of possession of destructive devices and released on his own recognizance.
SANTA CRUZ, Calif.—Police and the FBI are investigating what seems to be a targeted vandalism on the SUV of a University of California, Santa Cruz researcher.
The researcher, who was not identified, called police on Sunday to report someone had cut the brake lines on the SUV.
Santa Cruz police officers are investigating the attack. UCSC scientists who test on animals have been targeted in the past, but this researcher’s work does not involve animals.
In February 2008, animal rights activists tried to force their way into a researcher’s home and attacked the researcher’s spouse. Four people were indicted by a federal grand jury. Their case is pending.
In August 2008, the property of two other UCSC scientists who work with animals were firebombed. No one was arrested in those cases.
Whether or not it was a bomb is unclear, but we do know it was a traffic mess.
Around 4 p.m. Monday, the Colfax Bridge in downtown South Bend was shut down for about 45 minutes while the bomb squad investigated what appeared to be two pipe bombs with wires attached.
South Bend police tell us the suspicious items were just east of the bridge near a sign.
“When you see something like that, get away, call law enforcement immediately and that’s what happened and whether it was a device or not that was the appropriate action by the citizen and the first arriving officers,” South Bend Police Capt. Phil Trent said.
The bomb squad removed the items and took them away to be investigated. No one was hurt and the bridge was reopened.

Dispatchers in Lawrence County, Ohio confirm that there has been a bomb threat at Wendy’s in Proctorville. The immediate area has also been evacuated. Residents say emergency vehicles closed part of Route 7 in both directions. Dispatchers in Lawrence County, Ohio say Route 7 has since been re-opened. Dispatchers say they aren’t sure exactly when the road was re-opened to traffic, but it was sometime before 7 a.m. No other details about the incident are available.

The systematic coverup of many Catholic priests’ decades-long sexual abuse of thousands of children now appears to have reached all the way to the top and Pope Benedict XVI.
The New York Times on Thursday March 25, 2010 broke the story of how the pope, who was then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, and other top Vatican officials looked the other way or worse when informed of a particularly egregious case of an abusive priest in Wisconsin. American bishops directly contacted Ratzinger in 1996 about the Rev. Lawrence Murphy, who had molested as many as 200 deaf boys while working at a school in Milwaukee from 1950 to 1974.
As Wisconsin bishops prepared a secret canonical trial against him, Murphy wrote to Ratzinger, who led the Vatican office that decides how to handle cases of accused priests. Murphy said he was in poor health and “I have repented of any of my past transgressions, and … simply want to live out the time that I have left in the dignity of my priesthood. … I ask your kind assistance in this matter.”
Soon after, Ratzinger’s then-deputy, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertrone, halted Murphy’s looming trial. He was never seriously disciplined. The Vatican’s defense was underwhelming. Read more

WEST ALLIS - The burning of a President Obama effigy catches the attention of the secret service. The owner of the tavern named Yester Years says she has been in West Allis for 32 years, and has never had anything like this happen. She’s been getting threats for something she says was blown out of proportion.

A judge says a North Dakota man should be released after serving more than six months in jail for threatening to kill President Barack Obama.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland on Tuesday sentenced Eric Hirchert to time served and two years of supervised release. Hirchert had been in custody since Nov. 9. Authorities say the 22-year-old Hirchert told his parents he was going to shoot Obama and posted a statement on his brother’s Facebook page that he was going to kill the president. He faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Several hospitals in Orlando were put on lockdown for an emergency police investigation Saturday morning. “This morning, at 10:55 a.m., Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando received a bomb threat,” said Orlando Health representative Geo Morales. Arnold Palmer Hospital, Winnie Palmer Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and Hubbard House are currently in lockdown. Read more
UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A man has been arrested and charged with calling in a bomb threats at the Union County courthouse in Monroe North Carolina.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Antavius White, 26, Thursday night at his home at 2015 Union Street in Monroe.White has been charged with two felony counts of calling in a bomb threat. Captain Mike Easley said White called in two bomb threats to the Union County Courthouse on May 19th and May 20. The motive was that his sister had a pending court appearance, Easley said. White was placed in the Union County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond.
