LOS ANGELES – A deadly gas explosion obliterated an industrial building with such violent force Friday that a worker was hurled into the street, car windows were shattered and a survivor had his hair singed in the inferno.
One man died and another was critically injured in the blast that was blamed on a gas line that had been tampered with and rerouted.
Jonathan Apol, 20, a welder at a neighboring business, was putting on his work overalls when the explosion rocked the South Los Angeles street. He ran outside in his boxer shorts and saw the building engulfed in flames.
“It sounded like a plane had crashed in there,” Apol said. “It was like a bang, then two seconds later, two more bangs.”
Fragments of melting asphalt rooftop were sprayed across the street, and smashed floor tiles were hurled at least 50 feet from the metalworking business. Read more
With Congress gridlocked on an immigration bill, the Obama administration is considering using a back door to stop deporting many illegal immigrants - what a draft government memo said could be “a non-legislative version of amnesty.”
The memo, addressed to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas and written by four agency staffers, lists tools it says the administration has to “reduce the threat of removal” for many illegal immigrants who have run afoul of immigration authorities. (more…)
Users’ personal information cannot now be made private, security consultant says
The personal details of 100 million Facebook users have been collected and published online in a downloadable file, meaning they will now be unable to make their publicly available information private.
However, Facebook downplayed the issue, saying that no private data had been compromised.
The information was posted by Ron Bowes, an online security consultant, on the Internet site Pirate Bay. (more…)
Sheriff’s spokesman Brian Lee said deputies were able to start the sweep Thursday afternoon and arrested four people: two had warrants for suspended licenses, one had a suspended license, and one was illegally carrying a firearm. He did not know if any were illegal immigrants.
Activists, armed with video cameras and aided by others listening to police scanners, roamed the county’s neighborhoods, saying they were ready to document any deputies harassing Hispanics. Read Full Story
People walking the streets armed with guns must be dangerous, right? The Brady Campaign and the Violence Policy Center keep claiming that even those individuals who have legally obtained permits to carry concealed handguns are extremely dangerous. With millions of Americans already having been issued such permits from the various states, this is an important issue.
The gun control organizations have frequently made these claims in the press. The Associated Press articles by Erik Schelzig and by Jim Abrams have given extensive, uncritical coverage. Members of the gun control organizations have made these claims unchallenged on such places as Fox News and on the Huffington Post. But the gun control advocates inaccurately describe many shooting cases, choosing to ignore that the majority of incidents involve people properly defending themselves. (more…)
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - The Dona Ana County bomb squad has removed chemicals found Wednesday in two plastic bottles behind a Las Cruces furniture store.
Two men clearing trash and weeds Wednesday morning found bottles containing a cystal-like substance. When a worker tossed 1 of the bottles, it disintegrated upon impact. There were no injuries.
Emergency personnel believe a chemical reaction inside the bottles caused the material to burst. Read full story
An explosive device was found in front of a Dollar Tree store in Chelsea Wednesday afternoon after a bomb squad responded to a report of a suspicious package.
Chelsea Police received a call around 2:30 p.m. that there was a suspicious package behind the Dollar Tree Store in the Home Depot Plaza on Revere Beach Parkway.
Officers determined that the package was some type of makeshift explosive. Read more
PHOENIX — Authorities evacuated the Sandra Day O’Connor Federal Courthouse Wednesday morning, only a short time after a federal judge struck down portions of Arizona’s new immigration law.
A bomb threat was issued at 8:55a at the Maricopa County Court building at Fifth Avenue and Madison Street, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
A citizen found an unattended backpack found leaning against a wall at the court building called it in, prompting the evacuation of both courts, according to the sheriff’s office.
Heavy security was already present at the federal courthouse in anticipation of U.S. District Judge Sarah Bolton’s ruling on Senate Bill 1070.

Police are investigating another assault on a Hispanic man in Staten Island as a possible hate crime — and the Mexican government is now getting involved as well.
Five men attacked the 40-year-old Mexican man Friday night as he was walking home after a soccer game at Faber Park, cop said. The attackers allegedly pummeled him while yelling anti-Mexican epithets. The man suffered head trauma, a fractured jaw and needed ten stitches above his eye, officials said.
The group of men made off with his backpack.
This is at least the sixth violent, ethnically-charged incident that has taken place in the neighborhood since April, and community leaders are urging residents to remain alert. (more…)

Of course, Christ’s emphasis on love is sometimes perceived to imply that he was a pacifist who condemned all violence and war. But this is a misunderstanding.
A close look at the Bible will show that Jesus Christ was not a pacifist and will demonstrate that he approved of the justified use of deadly force.
Jesus Christ was not a pacifist and it is sometimes necessary to respond to evil with force. But why and when is force right and when is it wrong? Through the Bible there are several key principles to answer this question.
The right to life. All through the Bible it is assumed that individuals have the right to life. For instance, Exodus 20:13 says, “You shall not murder.” The reasons we cannot murder is because God says so. But the reason he says so is because he has given us the right to live. This right to life implies the right to self-defense. If we should not be murdered, then we are justified in preventing someone from killing us. This is shown throughout the Bible. Jesus Christ both permitted and commanded his followers to be armed.
“He said to them, ‘But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one’” (Luke 22:36). Now that the apostles had learned the lesson of trusting in God (Luke 10:4), they were to be prepared to defend themselves as they traveled through dangerous areas to take the gospel to the whole world. A Deltona man and teenager used their neighborhood as the testing ground for highly corrosive homemade acid bombs, deputies said.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office investigators said 25-year-old John Wells and 15-year-old tossed the explosive chemical cocktails at several homes on Worthington Drive and Stanton Street, including the houses of a Volusia County deputy and Lake Mary officer.
“It doesn’t appear the suspects had specifically targeted the law-enforcement officers,” Gary Davidson of the Sheriff’s Office said.
Reports show the patrol cars of the law-enforcement officers were not at their homes when the suspects allegedly hurtled the acid bomb. Read more
A bomb squad detonated an explosive device found near a public park in Orange County, southern California on Monday, July 21 2010.
About a dozen homes were evacuated and a street was closed as authorities removed the device, the report said. After receiving a report that a device was found near Yorba Regional Park, Orange County police dispatched the bomb squad to the scene, and the squad successfully dismantled the device, the report quoted police Sgt. Rick Martinez as saying.
Martinez said the device had been there for hours before it was reported at 2:30 p.m.(2130 GMT).
The device was made with a substantial amount of explosive powder in a five-gallon water jug, sealed off with tape and then had a fuse placed in it, Martinez said.
The fuse was lit at some point, but it did not detonate, he said. It might be the work of one or more pranksters, according to preliminary investigation. The Orange County bomb squad detonated a portion of the device without setting off the powder so they could render the explosive inert, Martinez said.
The release of 90,000 secret U.S. military files by the whistle-blower website Wikileaks, in its broadest context, reveals that the Obama administration and the Pentagon brass have been and still are fully aware that they are not only losing the war in Afghanistan, but also have no possibility of winning.
The documents present a powerful indictment against the Pentagon, the Obama administration and the Bush administration for their failure to tell the truth about the war in Afghanistan. They provide documentary evidence of the killing of hundreds and perhaps thousands of civilians by U.S. and NATO troops.
The files reveal that the Pentagon set up a secret commando unit called Task Force 373 that is nothing other than a death squad. Task Force 373, made up of Army and Navy Special Operatives, is seeking to assassinate individuals from an assembled list of 2,000 targets.
And despite rosy-sounding publicity missives coming from the Pentagon, the information released on Wikileaks shows an obvious pattern of intensifying bomb attacks against U.S. and NATO forces.
It has been reported that 46 states are on the verge of bankruptcy.
Since states are Constitutionally mandated to balance their budgets, and do not possess the ability to print money, they’re finding themselves in a critically weakened position to challenge the Federal Government.
In our republic, states have sovereignty to create and enforce their own laws as long as they don’t violate the U.S. Constitution.The Tenth Amendment gives states the freedom from Federal laws and regulations if they deem them to be unconstitutional. (more…)

The bloodbath continues along our southern border and now word is coming in that Los Zetas, the highly trained killers formerly with the Gulf Cartel, have crossed into the United States and taken over at least two ranches in the Laredo,Texas area. In what could be deemed an act of war against the sovereign borders of the United States, Mexican drug cartels have seized control of at least two American ranches inside the U.S. territory near Laredo, Texas.
Two sources inside the Laredo Police Department confirmed the incident is unfolding and they would continue to coordinate with U.S. Border Patrol today. “We consider this an act of war,” said one police officer on the ground near the scene. In the first few days after BP’s Deepwater Horizon wellhead exploded, spewing crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico, cleanup workers could be seen on Louisiana beaches wearing scarlet pants and white t-shirts with the words “Inmate Labor” printed in large red block letters. Coastal residents, many of whom had just seen their livelihoods disappear, expressed outrage at community meetings; why should BP be using cheap or free prison labor when so many people were desperate for work? The outfits disappeared overnight.
Work crews in Grand Isle, Louisiana, still stand out. In a region where nine out of ten residents are white, the cleanup workers are almost exclusively African-American men. The racialized nature of the cleanup is so conspicuous that Ben Jealous, the president of the NAACP, sent a public letter to BP CEO Tony Hayward on July 9, demanding to know why black people were over-represented in “the most physically difficult, lowest paying jobs, with the most significant exposure to toxins.” Read more

The notion that governments derive their only just authority from the consent of the governed is a foundational principle of the American experiment.
However, a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 23% of voters nationwide believe the federal government today has the consent of the governed. Sixty-two percent (62%) say it does not, and 15% are not sure.
These figures have barely budged since February.
In his new book, In Search of Self-Governance, Scott Rasmussen observes that the American people are “united in the belief that our political system is broken, that politicians are corrupt and that neither major political party has the answers.” He adds that “the gap between Americans who want to govern themselves and the politicians who want to rule over them may be as big today as the gap between the colonies and England during the 18th century.”

Out-of-work fishers and others from the Gulf Coast are enraged about the double dealing of BP and the Feinberg-led escrow fund. They have just learned that if they earned any income or wages from BP as part of the clean-up effort, the money would be subtracted from any claim they make against the so-called $20 billion escrow fund. None of the five witnesses called to testify will appear at Wednesday’s hearing of the U.S. Coast Guard-Interior Department probe into what caused the Deepwater Horizon oil rig to explode.
U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Hung Nguyen said the panel was notified shortly before 5 p.m. Tuesday that four of the five people set to appear, all employees of Transocean, the owner of the rig, said they had changed their minds and would not appear. LOGANVILLE, Ga. - A man says he called Loganville police to his home for help and ended up being beaten by officers. Kenny Dixon said Friday that he arrived home Wednesday to find that his son had committed suicide.
Crews responded to the emergency, but Dixon said police made one of his family’s darkest days even worse by attacking, then arresting him.
Dixon had black eyes and scrapes on his face Friday, injuries he said he received in addition to his broken heart. Read more

When Booker, who was being processed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, didn’t obey, he was held down, hit with electric shocks and then placed facedown in a holding cell, according to two inmates who watched it unfold. As it guards the borders and hunts for terrorists, the Department of Homeland Security relies on an elite squad of about 2,000 canines to sniff for bombs, drugs and smuggled cash. Now the department is moving to expand its four-legged force by 3,000 — about 600 dogs a year over the next five years — according to a recent bid solicitation aimed at small breeders across the country.
