Al-Qaida is on the verge of producing radioactive weapons after sourcing nuclear material and recruiting rogue scientists to build “dirty” bombs, according to leaked diplomatic documents.

A leading atomic regulator has privately warned that the world stands on the brink of a “nuclear 9/11″.

Security briefings suggest that jihadi groups are also close to producing “workable and efficient” biological and chemical weapons that could kill thousands if unleashed in attacks on the West.

Thousands of classified American cables obtained by the WikiLeaks website and passed to The Daily Telegraph detail the international struggle to stop the spread of weapons-grade nuclear, chemical and biological material around the globe.

On February 2, the latest diplomatic cables leaked by WikiLeaks evidence that al-Queda is planning to pack explosive chemicals in teddy bears and other children’s toys to bomb airplanes.
US intelligence has briefed TSA officials about the plot, and TSA staff are are being instructed to closely examine all children’s items.

During a January 2010 meeting in Spain between Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and European ministers, the “teddy bear bomb” threat was disclosed.

Instructions on how to produce nitrocellulose are found in al-Qaeda’s training manual and at this link click here. Nitrocellulose is a highly flammable compound that airport body scanner technology is unable to detect. Nitrocellulose can become highly explosive if tightly packed in an object, such as a teddy bear.

A Marathon High School student confessed to writing graffiti Tuesday near a school bathroom that included a swastika and the threat of a bomb being on campus. The threat led principal Hammond Gracy to order the school evacuated around 12:30 p.m.

“We found graffiti by the restrooms that made a veiled threat there was a bomb on campus. With the Sheriff’s Office, we made a complete search of the campus and nothing was found. We agreed to put the kids back in school,” he said.

Gracy didn’t reveal the identity of the student. “One of the students did confess to making the threat. I can’t talk about the student at all,” he said.

Gracy said parents were contacted via the district’s automated call system to let them know their kids were safe.

It was the second time in a week threats were found at a Keys high school.

Friday, graffiti found at Key West High said the school would be shot up. Also found that day was a bullet clip, but police don’t believe that was related to the threats; rather, they say a law enforcement officer may have accidentally dropped the clip while at a previous school function.

An Islamist extremist who worked as a British Airways computer expert conspired with a radical preacher to blow up a plane bound for the United States, a court was told on Tuesday.

Rajib Karim, 31, moved to Britain from Bangladesh in 2006 and was employed with the airline in Newcastle, joining a gym, playing football and never airing extreme views, Woolwich Crown Court heard.

But all the while, the prosecution claimed, he was communicating with a terrorist cell and radical cleric Anwar al Awlaki who is believed to be in Yemen.

“The defendant, as will become plain to you from the ideological and operational material recovered from his home after his arrest, is entirely committed to an extreme jihadist and religious cause,” Jonathan Laidlaw, prosecuting, told the court.

“He believes that terrorism, including the murder of civilians, is permissible to establish, as he views it, a true Islamic state.

Jury deliberations began Tuesday afternoon for a former U.S. Border Patrol agent who prosecutors said attacked a sleeping Escondido couple in a botched attempt to kill his estranged wife and her boyfriend in July 2009.
Gamalier Reyes Rivera, 34, is accused of two counts each of premeditated attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, torture and aggravated mayhem. He also faces one count of burglary for breaking into the Escondido home.
