BATON ROUGE — Gov. Bobby Jindal would sign a bill requiring presidential candidates to provide a copy of their birth certificate to qualify for the Louisiana ballot if it reaches his desk, a spokesman said Monday.

“It’s not part of our package, but if the Legislature passes it we’ll sign it,” press secretary Kyle Plotkin said.

House Bill 561 was filed last week by two Republican lawmakers….

The bill by state Rep. Alan Seabaugh, R-Shreveport, and Sen. A.G. Crowe, R-Slidell, would require federal candidates who want to appear on Louisiana ballots to file an affidavit attesting to their citizenship, which would have to be accompanied by an “original or certified copy” of their birth certificate.

Authorities are investigating why a pipe bomb was found near a home Sunday morning. Golden Police say the call came in at 10:10 a.m. about the suspicious item in the front yard of a house in the 500 block of 15th Street. The Jefferson County Bomb Squad was called to the scene, and they used a disruptor to safely detonate bomb a short time later.

Officers are investigating if the bomb was placed near the home on purpose, or if it was dropped or forgotten. They are unsure if there was a specific target for the bomb.

The Obama administration said today that it’s moving ahead with a plan for broad adoption of Internet IDs despite concerns about identity centralization, and hopes to fund pilot projects next year.

At an event hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., administration officials downplayed privacy and civil liberties concerns about their proposal, which they said would be led by the private sector and not be required for Americans who use the Internet.

There’s “no reliable way to verify identity online” at the moment, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke said, citing the rising tide of security threats including malware and identity theft that have grown increasingly prevalent over the last few years. “Passwords just won’t cut it here.”

A 55-page document (PDF) released by the White House today adds a few more details to the proposal, which still remains mostly hazy and inchoate.

It offers examples of what the White House views as an “identity ecosystem,” including obtaining a digital ID from an Internet service provider that could be used to view your personal health information, or obtaining an ID linked to your cell phone that would let you log into IRS.gov to view payments and file taxes. The idea is to have multiple identity providers that are part of the same system.

If they would move the proposed mosque near Ground Zero further away from that location, out of respect for the American people and the families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks, he would consider not burning the Korans.

On 9/10/2010, Imam Musri met with Dr Jones away from the media and stated that the mosque would be moved. Dr Jones went out to the press and repeated these words, with Imam Musri standing next to him, in agreement. The Burn was canceled, but the Imam then claimed he did not make those promises. The pastor, Terry Jones, played the recording — which he said was made on Sept. 9 on his assistant’s iPhone — of a conversation between him and Imam Muhammad Musri, an Islamic leader in Florida. At the time, Mr. Musri was trying to persuade Mr. Jones not to burn the Korans as part of a demonstration on Sept. 11, 2010.

It is amazing that our military has fought and fought for freedom around the world and there is no end to the turmoil and battles yet to be fought. An old definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Our constitution and forefathers provided for the ability to engage in military wars to protect our nation, not to protect our supposed “interests”.

There was no expressed intent to create the “defensive” preemptive strike against those who present the “potential” for a threat to our nation. That definition can apply to all parts of the world where the USA interests are at risk from criminal foreign trade agreements that have destroyed the USA economic ability to maintain any quality of living for its citizens.

The irony of our corrupt government and its nefarious declaration of kinetic military actions to “protect the interests of the USA” is we the people, the tax payers, and soldiers who die to “protect the USA interests” have no idea what those interests are.

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (AP) — A Pakistani-born computer technician pleaded guilty Monday and was sentenced to 23 years in prison for joining what he thought was an al-Qaeda plot to bomb the Washington region’s Metro rail system.

Farooque Ahmed, 35, of northern Virginia, apologized for his actions at a plea hearing in U.S. District Court after his lawyer explained that Ahmed had succumbed to a government sting operation after being seduced by violent extremist rhetoric from a radical cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki, and others.

DELAND, Fla. — Four Volusia County people are facing charges Monday for setting off a pipe bomb in the muffler of someone’s car, but deputies are still looking for two of those suspects.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office told WFTV that deputies arrested 49-year-old Lisa Milligan on a probation violation and charged her in connection with building and planting a pipe bomb last week. John Jenkins, 24, was also arrested. Jenkins is accused of buying the materials and building the bomb.

Authorities say Thursday’s explosion outside a Santa Monica synagogue

A powerful blast that launched an improvised missile through the roof of a Jewish synagogue in Santa Monica, Calif., was determined late Friday to be a deliberate attack with an improvised explosive and not an accident as police originally thought.

Ron Hirsch, 60, a transient who regularly sought charity from members of the synagogue and community center is wanted as a suspect by an FBI and police task force.

“Responding bomb technicians conducted initial field testing and found evidence of what appeared to be an industrial incident involving cement and other materials,” according to the FBI on Thursday.

“Over the next 24 hours, bomb technicians and detectives conducted further forensic analysis at the scene and, after unearthing much of the large portion of the cement found, uncovered materials indicating that the device appeared to have been deliberately constructed,” an FBI spokesperson said.

ATLANTA — The owner of a lawn equipment repair business held police at bay on Friday afternoon after shooting several times from his home, authorities said. The Atlanta police SWAT team swarmed the intersection of Bolton Road and Collier Drive in northwest Atlanta just after 1 p.m. Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis Davenport said officers were responding to a “shots fired” call.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Three flights was evacuated Friday evening after an airport spokeswoman said there was an unidentified threat. According to the spokesperson, a local law enforcement agency received a bomb-threat against an aircraft at the Charleston International Airport. The airport authorities then pulled passengers off Delta and United Express airplanes.

Authorities say about 263 passengers in concourse A were re-screened and had their bags rechecked as a safety precaution. The spokeswoman says all three flights were delayed for a couple of hours.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection and Charleston County Bomb Squad were all called out to help in the investigation. A K-9 Unit was also called in to sniff the tarmac. No one was hurt in the incident

ATLANTA — A man police say told them he was a member of a white supremacist group has been sentenced in Atlanta to 30 years in prison for having weapons and explosives.

Police arrested 41-year-old Brandon Lee Hall a year ago. Police reports list items confiscated from Hall at that time as including a machete, handguns, black powder ball bearing rounds, a map of Austin, Texas, and a possible bomb. They also say Hall had some disturbing notes, one of which said “Mass Evacuation.”

Hall was found guilty of weapons charges and was sentenced on Thursday.

Atlanta police say Hall told them he was a member of a group called the Aryan Knights Brotherhood. A police report says Hall told officers he needed the weapons for personal protection.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israeli aircraft and tanks pounded Gaza on Friday, killing seven Hamas militants and five civilians in a surge of fighting sparked by a Palestinian rocket attack on an Israeli school bus the day before.

Israel and Gaza’s Hamas rulers seemed on the brink of another round of intense violence, just a little over two years after a three-week war in which persistent rocket fire from Gaza triggered a devastating Israeli military offensive in the territory.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attack on the school bus “crossed a line” and warned that “whoever tries to harm and murder children will pay with their life.”

In Thursday’s attack, Gaza militants hit a yellow Israeli school bus near the border with a guided anti-tank missile, injuring the driver and badly wounding a 16-year-old boy. Most of the schoolchildren on the bus had gotten off shortly before the attack. Hamas, which had largely held its fire since Israel’s last major offensive, claimed responsibility.

The sister of an Evans man who died Tuesday (04-05-2011) in custody said her brother didn’t receive proper medical care. John Wayne Siple, 44, of Hereford Farm Road, was being held in the Columbia County Detention Center on charges of manufacturing marijuana. He was arrested March 24 after 86 marijuana plants and growing equipment were seized from his home.

Siple’s sister, Wendy Anderson, said Wednesday that her brother was not properly cared for while in custody, as he struggled with an addiction to painkillers and Xanax.

“He was entitled to certain things,” Anderson said. “Whatever it takes to get him through this detox program is what they were obligated to facilitate, and they did not do that.”

A top Kremlin official has told the United States Russia wants “red button” rights to a new US-backed missile defense system for Europe, a move that would allow it to influence the shield’s day-to-day operational use.
Sergey Ivanov, Russia’s deputy prime minister, made the controversial demand during a visit to the United States where he met with top officials including Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State.

“We insist on only one thing,” he said of the nascent US-backed missile defense shield. “That we are an equal part of it.”

More home-made acid explosives were detonated in Kalispell, and police say they could use the public’s help to stop whoever is doing it.

NBC Montana reported a couple of weeks ago that five homemade bombs were tossed from a car at different places around Kalispell. Police say at least three more have been set off since then.

Detectives say they have a few leads, and believe kids are behind it. They caution those explosives can be dangerous.

“Juveniles may think that this is just a prank that no one’s going to get hurt by it,” says Kalispell Police Detective Scott Warnell. “But the ingredients that it takes to create this bomb, if it were to get on people, we could get chemical burns and really injure people.”

Fresno County Sheriff’s Detectives are investigating what they call a suspicious death near Mendota.

Authorities were called to a home near Whitesbridge and San Mateo just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

They found the body of a man in his 20s. His name has not been released.

Detectives found a grenade near the body which was detonated by the bomb squad.
