A 103-year-old woman and her 83-year-old daughter were just moments from being evicted from their home Tuesday, when sheriff’s deputies and the moving company hired by the bank decided not to go through with the action.
Channel 2’s Ryan Young was there when the family started thanking God for the miracle. At just three weeks shy of her 104th birthday, Vinia Hall has shared her home on Penelope Road in Northwest Atlanta with her daughter for 53 years.

Most of us don’t know exactly what software is installed on our phones when we purchase them. All that seems to matter is that it works. But when Android developer Trevor Eckhart found software installed on many popular mobile devices that logs every single one of your keystrokes — phone numbers dialed, text messages, encrypted web searches, etc. — people started to listen.
Last week, Wired reported that Eckhart had found a program called Carrier IQ installed rather secretly on smartphones; its a program that can track almost anything happening on your mobile phone. Carrier IQ threatened Eckhart, who had posted research and manuals on his website, saying he was in breach of copyright law and could face financial charges. But Eckhart didn’t back down.
In fact, Eckhart has released a new video and research showing Carrier IQ at work on a phone, according to Wired. The company’s website says the program is used to give “manufacturer’s unprecedented insight into their customer’s mobile experience.” Wired states that Carrier IQ said the software is used to gather “information off the handset to understand the mobile-user experience, where phone calls are dropped, where signal quality is poor, why applications crash and battery life” — not logging keystrokes.

Hackers recently accessed the critical infrastructure of three unnamed cities by compromising their SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems, the deputy assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division said today.
Speaking at the Flemings Cyber Security conference in London, Michael Welch said the hackers could theoretically have dumped sewage into a lake or shut off the power to a shopping mall.
“We just had a circumstance where we had three cities, one of them a major city within the US, where you had several hackers that had made their way into SCADA systems within the city,” Welch said.
The attack “was sort of a tease to law enforcement and the local city administration, saying ‘I’m here, what are you going to do about it,” he said. “Essentially it was an ego trip for the hacker because he had control of that city’s systems and he could dump raw sewage into the lake, he could shut down the power plant at the mall – a wide array of things.”

Some Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) printers contain a flaw that can allow hackers to remotely take control of the devices and use them for a variety of purposes, or even instruct them to catch on fire, according to researchers at Columbia University.
MSNBC reported Tuesday morning that the Columbia team discovered that some Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printers, and possibly similar devices, do not verify software upgrades contained within so-called remote firmware updates. The researchers were able to offer firmware updates that included malicious software and then take control of the printer.
“It’s like selling a car without selling the keys to lock it,” Columbia professor Salvatore Stolfo, the researchers’ director, told MSNBC.com’s Red Tape Chronicles. “It’s totally insecure.”
Once the researchers were able to take control of HP printers, they were able to accomplish a host of potentially dangerous tasks. They were able to print a tax return while sending a copy to a hacker’s remote computer, compromising a host of personal information; easily disabled printers; and even managed to command a printer to continuously heat up its ink-drying component until it set on fire. A Washington anti-government group is now accused of filing bogus liens against judges and federal agents involved in the prosecution of “sovereign citizens.”
Arrested last week, Kenneth W. Leaming is accused of retaliating against law officers by way of frivolous, multibillion-dollar liens meant to intimidate public officials who’ve prosecuted or jailed members of the so-called sovereign citizen movement. He is also alleged to have planned to harass the children of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
Federal prosecutors in Seattle claim paperwork collected from the home of a member of one radical anti-government organization showed Leaming was involved in the “County Rangers,” an armed group of self-appointed police acting in conjunction with a sovereign citizen organization. Several others with connections to the group are also currently facing federal prosecution.

Pittsburgh police found swastikas and threats to detonate bombs and “rain fire” on Downtown inside a stolen van the city used to drive senior citizens.
Officers from the bureau’s intelligence unit went to the parking lot of the Burger King on East Carson Street on the South Side to examine the van after a caller reported finding it at about 10:15 a.m.
Riddled with misspellings, graffiti on and inside the van included references to the Ku Klux Klan, the number 666 and swastikas. Two bombs would explode Downtown at 5 p.m., according to the writing on the van, police said.
“Nothing will stop our hell rain fire apon your souls,” police said they found written on the van.
The bomb squad found no explosives in the van, police said.
Police said the van was stolen from a lot at the city-run senior center on the 5300 block of Second Avenue sometime between Nov. 23 and this morning.
Police ask anyone with information about the theft or the threats to call the intelligence unit at 412-323-7800 .

SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. — A bomb squad was called out to a Sheboygan County convenience store after an explosive device was found there Sunday.
Sheboygan Falls police said they are looking for the person who left the explosive-powder device at the store.
Police said it was left outside a Q-Mart on Fond du Lac Avenue about 6:30 a.m. The Milwaukee Bomb Squad was brought in to dismantle it.

(CNN) — Federal safety regulators announced Friday that they have opened “a formal safety defect investigation” into the Chevrolet Volt over concerns the electric car’s battery may pose a significant fire risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been looking at the car for months, explaining in a press release that this includes crash-testing the Volt in May and conducting three tests last week focused specifically on the vehicle’s lithium-ion batteries.
“The agency is concerned that damage to the Volt’s batteries as part of three tests that are explicitly designed to replicate real-world crash scenarios have resulted in fire,” the administration said. “NHTSA is therefore opening a safety defect investigation of Chevy Volts, which could experience a battery-related fire following a crash.”

MUSLIM HATE FEST: A Muslim Brotherhood rally in Cairo’s most prominent mosque turned into a venomous anti-Israel protest, with attendants vowing to “one day kill all Jews.” Some 5,000 people joined the rally, called to promote the “battle against Jerusalem’s Judaization.”

Time and again, a Quran quote vowing that “one day we shall kill all the Jews” was uttered at the site. Meanwhile, businessmen in the crowd were urged to invest funds in Jerusalem in order to prevent the acquisition of land and homes by Jews. Throughout the event, Muslim Brotherhood activists chanted: “Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv, judgment day has come.”

Christopher M. Simmance, a leader of Occupy Buffalo, told several media outlets that he served as many as three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not only that, but he also claims to have been so severely injured by an RPG while in combat in Afghanistan, that he only has 10 years left to live. Army service records, however, show a very different story, reporting that Simmance was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington for three years and left active-duty in January 2001 — before the September 11 attacks.
But it gets worse.
Simmance claims he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2001 where he served in the “Valley of Elah.”
If that name sounds familiar, it is because “The Valley of Elah” refers to the site where the Biblical battle between David and Goliath took place — it is also the name of a 2007 movie starring Tommy Lee Jones.
There is no “Valley of Elah” in Afghanistan.
Army records reveal that Simmance left active-duty service with the rank of E4, or specialist, not staff sergeant, and was stationed at Fort Lewis for the duration of his active-duty service.
According to Buffalo News, those close to Simmance said they initially believed the Occupier’s claims of wartime deployments and bravery but soon discovered he was exaggerating his military service. The News outlines some of Simmance’s public claims regarding his alleged service:

“Our military and veterans have earned each of the 10 benefits Congress is proposing to cut,” said VFW National Commander Richard L. Eubank, a retired Marine and Vietnam combat veteran from Eugene, Ore.
“Our nation broke a similar promise to her World War I veterans,” he said. “It took the VFW to lead thousands of them in a march on Washington until Congress made the responsible choice to support them. The VFW wouldn’t stand for broken promises then and we won’t stand for it now.”

A 55-year-old woman shot in the foot during a Black Friday robbery attempt at the Walmart in Myrtle Beach, SC did not freeze up in shock. She came back guns blazing.
After a robber put a round into her foot, the middle-aged woman ripped her own pistol out of her vehicle’s center console and fired 2 or 3 warning shots in the air.
Her two assailants ran from the scene with the victim’s purse. Police then arrived at the scene.
Another woman with the victim at the time of the assault told officers the victim and a 25-year-old male were at the trunk of their vehicle when she heard the victim scream, according to a police incident report.
After the warning shots were fired, the witness stated, one suspect headed toward the Walmart parking lot and the other toward a wooded area on Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach.
The 55-year-old victim and the male bystander were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment. Their injury status was not disclosed at the time of this report.
Police are still searching for the two suspects.

In a disturbing trend, “gay” groups are becoming more violent towards those who do not accept their lifestyle.
Last week, a pastor in Oklahoma received multiple death threats after he spoke for two minutes at a city council meeting in Oklahoma City, arguing against adding “sexual orientation” to the city’s anti-discrimination policy.
Paul Blair, Pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma told the council that the law was unnecessary and would create an unfair burden on employers and could allow men to use women’s restrooms and locker rooms.
Following his remarks, Blair and the church have been threatened with violence.
A caller said “I have committed homicide more than one time and in more than one state – and yet have not been caught or charged. Think about that.” The caller then said “I will be coming to visit you at 1230 North Sooner Road. I will be seeing you, bringing you something.”
The individual placed several other threatening calls, including one hinting there was a bomb on the church property. “I suggest you listen to this message clearly. A (muffled) has been placed on your property in the building, as well as some visitors will be visiting Pastor Blair at his residence. This is just to let you know. Thank you. Detonate it, detonate.” The caller also threatened to sexually assault Blair’s wife.
Individual members of the church have also faced threats.
Blair told the Gazette, that they called the police after the first calls and were going to leave it at that, but that changed once the possible bomb threat materialized.
“We have a Christian elementary school with 32 students and five teachers. We also have services on Wednesday night,” Blair said. “At that point it stepped across the line from somebody venting and became domestic terrorism.”
The police came back out and searched the building. Blair said the police then turned the case over to the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Blair said it was amazing that the threats against his church and himself have been largely ignored by the national media.

A bomb squad was called to the Logan County Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon after a pair of threatening phone calls was made, a fire official said.
Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow said the scene was cleared by about 4:15 p.m. and that the bomb squad was asked to search the courthouse after a pair of threatening phone calls had been received.

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM)
The Michigan State Police post in Flint announced on Tuesday that a suspect is in custody in connection to a bomb threat made on Nov. 4 at several Genesee County schools.
At the time, the person said in a phone message that five bombs had been placed in unnamed schools in the county.
Troopers said a warrant was issued for Adam White, 32, of Burton, for one count of making a terrorist threat, which is a 20-year felony. White is currently being held on $50,000 bond in the Genesee County Jail for one count of bank robbery.
On Nov. 4, troopers say White made two bomb threat phone calls, received by Saginaw County and Flint City 911 dispatch centers, prior to allegedly robbing the Bank of America on Court Street in Burton.

DENVER — A man accused of starting a fire and planting a homemade bomb at Southwest Plaza Mall plans to change his plea, court documents indicate.
Earl Moore is accused of starting a fire inside the hallway near the mall’s food court on April 20. The small fire was set near two small propane canisters and a pipe bomb, both rigged to go off, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.
Moore pleaded not guilty to federal charges of arson and using a destructive device. Moore’s lawyer said in court documents this week that Moore is ready to proceed with a change-of-plea hearing, according to KUSA-TV. Details of a plea agreement haven’t been released.

The House passed national concealed carry reciprocity legislation on Wednesday evening November 16, 2011 by a vote of 272-154.
The bill, H.R. 822, is intended to allow persons who hold a concealed carry permit from one state to also carry anywhere in the country, with the exception of Illinois and Washington, D.C.
Though the bill passed by a wide margin, it was not without controversy on the pro-gun side of the debate. In previous alerts, GOA has pointed out several flaws in the legislation.
* It forces Vermont residents (who do not need a permit to carry) to either obtain an out-of-state permit or to push their state to pass a more restrictive concealed carry law than it now enjoys;
* By requiring permits for reciprocity, the bill undermines efforts at the state level to pass constitutional carry (i.e., Vermont-style carry);
* In restrictive “may issue” states, the bill allows for non-residents to carry firearms in the state while most residents would still be prohibited, and;
* The bill is yet another example of Congress distorting of the Constitution’s Commerce Clause.
Representative Justin Amash (R-MI), who voted against the bill, addressed this last point in a statement, calling H.R. 822 “an unconstitutional bill that improperly applies the Commerce Clause to concealed carry licensing.”
Another freshman Representative, Rob Woodall (R-GA), noted that the right to carry a concealed firearm is already protected by the Second Amendment.
“If the Second Amendment protects my rights to carry my concealed weapon from state to state to state, I don’t need another federal law,” Rep. Woodall said. He went on to remind his colleagues of the original intent of the right to keep and bear arms.
“I don’t believe the Second Amendment was put in the Bill of Rights to allow me to shoot targets [or] hunt for deer and turkey. I think the Second Amendment was put in the Bill of Rights so that I could defend my freedom against an overbearing federal government.”

But now the President, who raised fraud to an art form, has issued a regulation under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) directing government agencies to lie to the public.
Buried in pages and pages of legalese, you find it in Section 16.6(f)(2): An agency desiring to withhold certain sensitive records is directed to respond “as if the excluded records did not exist.”
Not, “you can’t have the records.”
Not, “we can neither confirm nor deny the existence of the records.”
Rather, the agency is directed to lie.
As reported by the Daily Caller last week: “A proposed revision to Freedom of Information Act rules would allow federal agencies to lie to citizens and reporters seeking certain records, telling them the records don’t exist.”
We in the gun community have faced an analogous situation when Attorney General Eric Holder and other high Justice Department officials lied about their knowledge of Operation Fast and Furious — and the department’s role in placing guns in the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

The video produced by Mercy for Animals, a vegan-advocating activist group, shows what they call animal cruelty at five Sparboe Farms facilities in Iowa, Minnesota and Colorado.
“The behavior on tape is disturbing and completely unacceptable. McDonald’s wants to assure our customers that we demand humane treatment of animals by our suppliers,” Bob Langert, McDonald’s vice president for sustainability, said in a statement.
And animal cruelty isn’t the only concern.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration sent Sparboe Farms a letter warning them that inspectors found Sparboe in “serious violation” of salmonella-preventing regulations.
The warning said eggs from those facilities “have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby they may have become contaminated with filth, or whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health.”

As the Occupy Wall Street Movement continues to demonstrate in major cities across the world, an increasing number of United Methodist Church members are joining the cause.
Methodism’s involvement in the protests is seen with churches in states like New York and California encouraging parishioners, as well as Facebook groups like “Methodists @ OWS.”
“The United Methodist church has no official position about the Occupy movement. However, there are a growing number of United Methodists taking part,” Jim Winkler, general secretary of the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society told The Christian Post.
“In our United Methodist Social Principles, we claim all economic systems are under the judgment of God. We believe corporations are responsible not only to their stockholders but to their other stakeholders.”
Winkler believes that if alive, John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, would at the very least support the aims of the Occupy Movement.
United Methodists activists drawn to OWS obviously are attracted to OWS’ calls for coercive wealth redistribution, its conspiracy theories, its resentments of private industry, and its utopianism,”
Though the United Methodist Church does not have an official position on the Occupy Wall Street Movement, other mainline Protestant Denominations have declared more overt support for the efforts of the protesters.
The United Church of Christ’s Collegium of Officers issued a statement on Oct. 21 stating that the Occupy Movement is “a reminder that thoughtful, faithful, and committed people can make a difference when voices are united for the common good.”

During the tent city construction at Occupy Chicago on Michigan Ave, John Bachtell, a spokesperson from the national board of the Communist Party U.S.A., addressed the angry mob of nearly 3000. He claimed to “bring greetings and support” from the party, to the occupy movement. Bachtell received a very warm welcome and overwhelming applause form the “occupiers.”
“We will be with this movement….til we make all the changes that we know we have to make….This movement is part and parcel in the great tradition in this country of people powered democracy….This is the next big step of the democratic revolution in our country.”- Bachtell said.
We also caught up with some of the other communist revolutionaries who marched with flea-infested, bongo-banging, suburban runaways from Occupy Chicago.

Just last month The Blaze reported that cyber attacks on U.S. utilities are on the rise, as more and more hook up to the Internet to synchronize systems. Well, here’s the latest case-in-point.
Wired’s Threat Level reports that attackers with IP addresses based in Russia infiltrated the control system of a water utility in Springfield, Illinois, and destroyed a pump last week. But even though employees at the utility report noticing something fishy, they thought it was just a glitch in the system and analysis has shown the initial hack could have happened in September.

The hackers were discovered on Nov. 8 when a water district employee noticed problems in the city’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA). The system kept turning on and off, resulting in the burnout of a water pump.

The hackers stole usernames and passwords that the vendor maintained for its customers, and then used those credentials to gain remote access to the utility’s network.
The theft of credentials raises the possibility that other customers using the vendor’s SCADA system may be targeted as well.
“It is unknown, at this time, the number of SCADA usernames and passwords acquired from the software company’s database and if any additional SCADA systems have been attacked as a result of this theft,” the report states, according to Joe Weiss, managing partner of Applied Control Solutions, who obtained a copy of the document and read it to Threat Level.

What appears to be a homemade bomb exploded inside the Cheshire High School gymnasium Friday night, police and fire officials said.
According to Lt. Chris Cote, an officer patrolling the area around the property was flagged down by a person who reported there had been an explosion inside the school. Police, along with firefighters, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a State Police Bomb Squad and members of the State Police Emergency Services Unit, went into the school and found a plastic bottle filled with chemicals.
The bottle had been tossed into the gym near where the girls’ volleyball team was holding practice around 5:37 p.m., Cote said. No one was hurt and there was no damage to the building or equipment, though two coaches were taken to the hospital after complaining of skin irritation, Sgt. Kevin O’Donnell said.

A pilot inadvertently caused a mid-air terror scare after locking himself in the toilet and sending a passenger to the cockpit to get help.
The co-pilot refused to let the helpful traveler into the cockpit and messaged control tower at La Guardia Airport where the plane was due to land saying he thought an attack was underway and that someone with a ‘thick foreign accent’ was trying to access the cockpit.
Even after the passenger offered the co-pilot the password and continued banging on the door, he still refused him entry. Fighter planes had been alerted but were never sent out. Eventually the pilot managed to force his way out of the toilet and retake control of the plane.
In a recording obtained by the New York Post, he can be heard saying: ‘The captain, myself, went back to the lavatory and the door latch broke and I had to fight my way out of it with my body to get the door open. ’There is no issue, no threat.’ The incident took place on a New York-bound Chatauqua Airlines flight from Asheville, North Carolina. FBI and Port Authority cops met the plane when it landed in New York that evening.
