Last month, the Utah House voted 68-6 to prohibit state officials from complying with REAL ID. A couple dozen states have passed resolutions protesting the federal Act, but the Utah law would have more teeth. If more states join, we might see a real confrontation with national policy.

The Whiteville Police Department (WPD) will conduct a seat belt checkpoint on Saturday, April 4, 2009, on Hwy 64 within the city limits of Whiteville, TN. This checkpoint will be in conjunction with a Homeland Security training exercise by the 251st Military Police in Bolivar, who recently returned from Iraq.

Although uniformed military personnel will be visible at the checkpoint, the military participation will be strictly observation. The military police uses checkpoints to disseminate information and ensure safe movement in the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster, or other large-scale emergency.

Cameras to Catch Speeders and Scofflaws Are Spreading — And Sparking Road Rage

The village of Schaumburg, Ill., installed a camera at Woodfield Mall last November to film cars that were running red lights, then used the footage to issue citations. Results were astonishing. The town issued $1 million in fines in just three months.

But drivers caught by the unforgiving enforcement — which mainly snared those who didn’t come to a full stop before turning right on red — exploded in anger. Many vowed to stop shopping at the mall unless the camera was turned off. The village stopped monitoring right turns at the intersection in January.

Once a rarity, traffic cameras are filming away across the country. And they’re not just focusing their sights on red-light runners. The latest technology includes cameras that keep tabs on highways to catch speeders in the act and infrared license-plate readers that nab ticket and tax scofflaws.

Vehicles drive past a speed surveillance and ticketing camera on a road heading into downtown in Cleveland, Ohio, earlier this month. The cameras measure the speed of passing motorists and make a photo of the car’s license plate so the city can mail a speeding ticket to the offending driver.

Drivers — many accusing law enforcement of using spy tactics to trap unsuspecting citizens — are fighting back with everything from pick axes to camera-blocking Santa Clauses. They’re moving beyond radar detectors and CB radios to wage their own tech war against detection, using sprays that promise to blur license numbers and Web sites that plot the cameras’ locations and offer tips to beat them..

Governments around the world are finding reasons to install surveillance cameras, but few are keeping account of the costs and benefits that come from those CCTV systems. Chicago, in its bid to follow in China’s steps as host of the Olympics, is the most recent one to do so. By spending millions of dollars, Chicago aims to have a camera “on every corner” in preparation for the 2016 Summer Games that it hopes to host. But they are doing so without thoughtful implementation or an understanding of the realities of around-the-clock government surveillance.

Under the auspices of fighting crime and preventing terrorism, Chicago’s Police Superintendent Jody Weis is hyping CCTV as having “limitless” crime-fighting potential. The reality, as is evident to anyone who has actually researched this type of thing, is that studies have shown municipal surveillance cameras to have little to no positive effect on crime. Further, London is widely known to have the most extensive CCTV network in the world, but that served as little deterrent to the terrorists of July 2005. But instead of bringing this up, the Sun-Times and Chicago officials point to a test in which “live video was used to catch a petty thief in the act of sticking his hand in a Salvation Army kettle outside Macy’s State Street.” Given the cost in both dollars and civil liberties, it is hard to justify catching petty criminals stealing some coins from charity.

But according to another city official, “civil libertarians have nothing to fear” from the blanket surveillance system because police operating the pan-and-tilt CCTV cameras see only what you would see if you were sitting on a park bench in front of that building.” The difference, of course, is that by extending government power to all facets of public life, you extend the asymmetry of power between citizens and government (especially the corrupt ones for which Illinois is known). Indeed, we have already seen examples of “park bench” type cameras being abused by government.

What Chicago needs is an honest assessment of surveillance and a commitment to real police work, not hyped technology. If they want to follow in China’s footsteps, it would be best to avoid the Big Brother ones.

Privacy advocates are issuing warnings about a new radio chip plan that ultimately could provide electronic identification for every adult in the U.S. and allow agents to compile attendance lists at anti-government rallies simply by walking through the assembly.

The proposal, which has earned the support of Janet Napolitano, the newly chosen chief of the Department of Homeland Security, would embed radio chips in driver’s licenses, or “enhanced driver’s licenses.”

“Enhanced driver’s licenses give confidence that the person holding the card is the person who is supposed to be holding the card, and it’s less elaborate than REAL ID,” Napolitano said in a Washington Times report.

REAL ID is a plan for a federal identification system standardized across the nation that so alarmed governors many states have adopted formal plans to oppose it. However, a privacy advocate today told WND that the EDLs are many times worse.

Radio talk show host and identity chip expert Katherine Albrecht said REAL ID earned the opposition of Christians because of its resemblance to the biblical “mark of the beast,” civil libertarians opposed it for its “big brother” connotations and others worried about identity theft issues with the proposed databases.

“We got rid of the REAL ID program, but [this one] is way more insidious,” she said.

Enhanced driver’s licenses have built-in radio chips providing an identifying number or information that can be accessed by a remote reading unit while the license is inside a wallet or purse.

The technology already had been implemented in Washington state, where it is promoted as an alternative to a passport for traveling to Canada. So far, the program is optional.

But there are other agreements already approved with Michigan, Vermont, New York and Arizona, and plans are under way in other states, including Texas, she said. Read More

There is a safe way to defeat this new Driver’s license containing a RFID chip and also beat to the Government’s ability to track citizens.

Wrap the new license with aluminum foil. To prove this approach works, wrap your cell phone with aluminum foil in about four layers. Next, call your phone from another phone and it will not ring; if it does, add another layer to it.

The phone while wrapped in foil will prevent all signals from being received or transmitted.
This method will take you off the grid and this will also work with passports as well as any and all devices containing RFIDs chips or radio transmitters.

The U.S. Army is to invest millions in riot equipment, a fact that has furthered fears that troops will be used inside the U.S. in order to quell any civil unrest resulting from the ongoing economic crisis.

The U.S. Army Contracting Agency, based at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, has a post on the Federal Business Opportunities website, requesting the equipment and has received several notices of interest from potential vendors.

The request titled “84–RIOT EQUIPMENT” outlines the need for hard polyethylene Shin and Chest Guards, shock absorbing Forearm Protectors, Interior leg brace supports as well as knee and ankle protectors.

The ACA asks that the equipment be able to “safely withstand a substantial blow… from non-ballistic weapons or flying debris”.

The Solicitation also states:

The associated North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code for this procurement is 453998 with a small business size standard of $6M. This requirement is a [ Small Business ] set-aside and only qualified offerors may submit bids.

the fact that Urban warfare training drills are taking place across the country as top analysts as well as officials predict a potential “summer of rage” across Europe and America as civil unrest from the economic fallout builds.

Are such drills really for the purpose of preparing troops for foreign combat zones? Undoubtedly - but other factors indicate that the drills may very well also be aimed at preparing troops for dealing with mass civil unrest as the economic crisis worsens.

There’s no question that U.S. authorities have been closely observing riots that have toppled governments in Iceland and Latvia and also threatened to do so in several other European countries. The fact that they have contingency plans in place to deal with such scenarios should they unfold in America cannot be disputed.

Indeed, before a media exposé forced them into a denial, Northcom revealed that one of the duties of at least 20,000 active duty troops that are being placed inside the United States would be dealing with “civil unrest and crowd control”.

The U.S. Army War College in November released a white paper called Known Unknowns: Unconventional ‘Strategic Shocks’ in Defense Strategy Development. The report warned that the military must be prepared for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States,” which could be provoked by “unforeseen economic collapse,” “purposeful domestic resistance,” “pervasive public health emergencies” or “loss of functioning political and legal order.” The “widespread civil violence,” the document said, “would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security.”

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Drunken drivers beware: If you drink and drive, especially during the last weekend of February, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and other area law enforcement will be out for blood.

PBSO deputies plan to set up driving under the influence checkpoints. If they suspect a driver is under the influence, they’ll offer an on-the-spot Breathalyzer. If drivers refuse, deputies will ask to draw blood from their arms.

“I think that’s really personal and I think that if you deny a Breathalyzer and you say that you don’t want that, I think that’s outrageous if they take blood without your consent,” driver Courtney Liddle said.

Attorney David Olson said that “would only be lawful if a warrant is issued by a judge.”

That’s just what deputies plan to do. They’ll actually drive to a judge’s home for a signature and return to the checkpoint.

Olson said drawing blood from drivers is usually done in extreme cases like homicides and fatal collisions. Olson said he’s not sure a judge would actually sign a warrant. Read More

Kurtz, in his first public remarks since becoming an advisor to President Obama’s transition team following the election, describes his biggest worry: A “cyber Katrina” in which fragmented bureaucracies and companies fail to share critical information and coordinate responses to cyber intruders attempting to disrupt power grids, financial markets, or any number of now-plausible scenarios involving a Web shutdown. One recent fear is the cascading effects of even a partial Internet blackout that could add to economic anxieties. There’s such electronic insecurity afoot, some are even beginning to suggest building an entirely new global computer infrastructure.

FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique — Strikes that have nearly frozen everyday life on France’s Caribbean islands burst into clashes today as police battled protesters angry at high prices and resentful of a tiny white elite on lands better known for beach-side vacations.

Police detained about 50 people after coming under a barrage of stones as they tried to take down barricades on the island of Guadeloupe, said Nicolas Desforges, the island’s top government official.

Strikers were sprayed with tear gas and several, including union leader Alex Lollia, were injured, France’s leftist NPA party said in a statement.

The leader of the LKP Collective that organized Guadeloupe’s strike warned that deadly escalation is possible.

I told the officers from a distance that we had done nothing wrong and therefore were not interested in having a discussion. As mentioned, it was 2:15 am and we were in the process of hailing a cab. The moment I turned away from the officers, they both proceeded to sprint in my direction and forcibly restrain and handcuff me. Without any sort of explanation, I was thrown in the back of a squad car and driven to a nearby station. Vincent was left on the sidewalk having no idea why I had been abducted.

The House overwhelmingly adopted legislation this week mandating the creation of a new kind of terrorist watchlist: a database of people who aren’t terrorists, but are routinely flagged at airports anyway.

The U.S. government maintains a list of about a million names of suspected terrorists that is crosschecked with passenger names ahead of airline boarding. The list has been dogged for years by sloppy name matches that have ensnared innocent travelers, children, prominent politicians and government officials, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ secretary of education and all men named David Nelson.

Under the new plan, approved late Tuesday 413-3, innocent victims of the terrorist watchlist must prove to the Department of Homeland Security, through an undetermined appeals process, that they are not terrorists. They would then get their names put on what the legislation calls the “Comprehensive Cleared List.”

The legislation is another attempt to assist wrongly flagged passengers and would supersede the troubled DHS Traveler Redress Inquiry Program, which has been criticized for being slow or unresponsive to flier complaints.

The FAST Redress Act, if approved by the Senate, requires the government to report within 240 days on its progress in implementing the new list.

Congratulations! With your help Virginians had a Real ID Act victory last week, as both anti Real ID bills - H.B.1587 & S.B.1431 - were reported, unchanged, out of the House & Senate Transportation Committees. This means these committees heard you! But the battle is not over. We must now join the fight onto the larger battleground of the full House of Delegates, and then on to the Senate. But remember, Virginia’s legislative session is very short and we still have a lot of work to do. Whether or not you live in Virginia, we must act, and act quickly! The House is expected to vote on this issue this week!

Virginia’s Governor Kaine supports Real ID, and his buddies control the Virginia Senate. So we will first concentrate our efforts on the House of Delegates. Del. Marshall is to be commended for not caving to the pressure of Speaker Howell last week, as evidenced by Del. Janis’ attempt to rewrite his bill to actually implement Real ID. But we must do more than voice our unalterable support for Marshall’s bill, we must also support Del. Athey’s budget amendment, #441-1h, which will prevent the House of Delegates from providing funding for Real ID compliance.

It’s possible Del. Marshall’s bill will be amended beyond all recognition, mutilated to the point that the American Policy Center and all freedom-loving Americans cannot support it. And even if this bill is passed unaltered by the House, we will fight an uphill battle in the Senate, and finally, Governor Kaine may decide to veto it. So we must presume and prepare for the worst case scenario, while doing all we can to achieve complete victory.

Our highest achievement will be a clean Opt Out bill. Most politicians would rather vote for a bill than to vote against a budget, so our strongest effort must be to pressure delegates to pass Del. Marshall’s bill, H.B. 1157, unaltered by hostile amendments. But we must also demand no budget be passed which will fund Real ID!

Please note: It does not matter if you are a resident of Virginia or not. Make the calls. A flood of calls to delegate offices will make a difference. We need to make them feel the heat to preserve American privacy rights. We must make these calls now!

Don’t let any delegate tell you that voting against funding is no longer needed because Bob Marshall’s H.B. 1587 takes care of the problem. That’s a long shot, and not worth the risk!

Everyone knows the “stimulus” package is a fraud, loaded with every Socialist’s shopping list. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (HR1, S336), or so-called economic stimulus bills, contain an earmark to renew the fatally flawed E-Verify program in the United States for another five years beyond it’s scheduled expiration date in March of this year. In an advance copy received by World Net Daily, it appears that the President’s new administration is going to try a bold new approach regarding the nation’s youths. President Obama’s staff is furiously working to finish the first draft of a new youth program, which would rival the traditional boy scouts.

Known as the “America Scouts,” these programs would be announced on March 1 of this year and the program would begin building a skeleton during the summer. On August 4, or Obama’s 48th birthday, the program would begin accepting children between the ages of 4 and 18.

While the exact specifications of the program are either secret or yet to be established, it is believed that there will be three classes of scouts.

“Liberty” scouts for children betweeen 4-8.

“Patriot” scouts for those between 8-12 and

“Constitution” scouts for those up to 18.

It is yet unknown if these “Constitution Scouts” would then move up to President Obama’s planned civilian reserve force.

What was made clear by contacts in the Administration is that portions of the White House believe that the Boy Scouts are too old and sedentary. In addition, their ties with religion are undesirable to the new Administration. A fresh start would focus these new scouts on the government, especially in these times of change.

As long as the program is passed by Congress, the America Scouts will be officially run by the federal government, but would be administered by each of the 50 states. The President would have the power to appoint a Scout Commissioner for an 8-year term.

Costs for the America Scouts have not been determined. However, it appears that the program could cost up to $2 billion a year. In order to make up for the costs, parents will be encouraged to contribute and special “reeducation” projects such as “Social Responsibility” will be paid for directly by the federal government.

A violation of the “natural born citizen” clause of the Constitution by Mr. Obama is so egregious and blatant in its nature that it marks the overt and wholesale abandonment of the Constitution by the Government, making this our “capstone grievance,” capping even the other abusive Constitutional violations this Foundation has sought to correct.

Since 1995, we have repeatedly and respectfully Petitioned the Government for Redress of its violations. We have established an overwhelming and irrefutable historic record of numerous, continuing violations by the Government and its steadfast refusal to justify its behavior or be held accountable in any way. For instance:

In light of the war powers clauses of the Constitution we have an individual Right to a government that does not apply the armed forces of the United States in hostilities overseas without a declaration of war; the invasion of Iraq was unconstitutional.

In light of the money clauses of the constitution the Federal Reserve System is unconstitutional.

We, the people have not authorized the government to give or lend public money or credit to private corporations for definitively private purposes. The Treasury and Fed bailouts are unconstitutional.

We, the people have not authorized the government to create a North American union that would, for all intents and purposes, erase our northern and southern borders. The development of a North American Union is unconstitutional.

In light of the privacy clauses of the constitution, the USA PATRIOT ACT is unconstitutional,

and the developing police state is unconstitutional.

In light of the tax clauses of the constitution, the direct, un-apportioned tax on labor is unconstitutional.

In light of the Second Amendment, federal gun control laws are unconstitutional.

In light of the Second Amendment, the absence of well-regulated state militias is unconstitutional.

In light of the “faithfully execute” clause of the Constitution, the President’s failure to faithfully execute the immigration and naturalization laws is unconstitutional.

In light of the “natural born citizen” clause of the Constitution, it is unconstitutional for Mr. Obama to assume the office of President of the United States, no matter the number of people who voted for him.

In light of the spirit and intent of the Constitution, it is unconstitutional for the Government to conduct elections that do not rely on paper ballots that are hand-marked and hand-counted with results announced and posted at each polling place.

In light of the First Amendment, Government officials are obligated to respond to the People’s Petitions for Redress of Grievances/violations of the Constitution.

When a long train of abuses, usurpation’s and refusals to respond to Petitions for Redress of violations of the Constitution evinces a conspiracy to transition our Constitutional Republic to a pure democracy, or to otherwise strip us of our Liberties and reduce us to serfdom under absolute despotism, it is the right of the People to alter the Government, pro-actively, non-violently and with critical mass.

Since 1995, we have repeatedly and respectfully Petitioned the Government for Redress of these violations of the Constitution. Our Petitions for Redress have been answered only by a conspiracy of silence and repeated injuries. The Government has refused to justify its behavior or be held accountable.

The record is so clear and unambiguous that it leaves no room for questioning it or grasping the full import of its consequences: The servants have taken over the house that our Creator built.

What must a Free People do? What must be deemed the appropriate next step?

According to the local Los Angeles newspaper, The Daily Breeze, California Congresswoman, Jane Harman, a blue dog conservative democrat, is up for a high level intelligence position in the Obama administration. The positions being considered are Director of National Intelligence, and Secretary of Homeland Security. If this speculation becomes fact, and Harman is appointed overseer of the freedoms of the American people, the people’s freedoms are toast. Conservative Democrat Harman consistently legislates AGAINST participatory democracy and against personal freedom.

The most egregious example of Harman’s disregard for participatory democracy is HR 1955 - the “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007″ - a frightening bill she slipped in the House for passage just over a year ago. HR 1955 is so anti-dissent, so anti-freedom and so McCarthy-like in its establishment of citizen review Commissions its Senate clone, S 1959, which luckily has not yet come up for vote. Unfortunately, Mrs. Harman was so covert when sneaking in “1955″ that no citizens could lobby to stop it.

“On October 23rd [2007], Congress voted to stifle Americans’ right to dissent when it passed House Resolution 1955, the “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007,” sponsored by California Congresswoman, Jane Harman. In sanctioning the ambiguous definitions for “homeland terrorism” contained in this bill, Congress equated American participatory democracy to American “homegrown terror.” The First Amendment is under assault:

H.R. 1955 DEFINITIONS:

(1) COMMISSION - The term ‘Commission’ means the National Commission on the Prevention of Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism established under section 899C.

(2) VIOLENT RADICALIZATION - The term ‘violent radicalization’ means the process of adopting or promoting an extremist belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologically based violence to advance political, religious, or social change.

(3) HOMEGROWN TERRORISM - The term ‘homegrown terrorism’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.

(4) IDEOLOGICALLY BASED VIOLENCE - The term ‘ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs.

Despite the ambiguity of the language in H.R. 1955, it still passed the House by an overwhelming 404 to 6 - rammed through by Jane Harman, under the guise of deterring another American mass murderer like Timothy McVeigh.”

There is ample proof Jane Harman intentionally slid this undemocratic legislation past her Congressional colleagues to conceal from them how extreme an assault on freedom it would be. According to her colleague, Henry Waxman, Harman’s bill had been placed on the “suspension calendar for non-controversial bills.” In other words, Mrs. Harman casually slipped in a bill that could declare ANYONE in America a terrorist based on the vaguest definitions and then she just asked everyone to sign on..

“A nation that views its own people as enemies creates laws to suppress them. A Congress that ignores the will of its people creates laws to redefine them. Homegrown activists become homegrown terrorists. Per the vague designations in H.R. 1955 [and S 1959], activists and terrorists are the same.”

1. The damage done to constitutional protections, civil liberties, and human rights is extensive. Repairing the damage will be a long slow process, especially with the new administration focusing on the economy and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
2. Historically, executive powers are often expanded but rarely reduced. It takes enormous pressure from the people to convince Congress and the President to reinstate the checks and balances required by the Constitution.
3. Congress has been complicit in the Bush administration’s constitutional violations. To reverse these policies, implemented in the name of the “war on terror,” we must educate our congressional representatives and hold them accountable to their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution.
4. President-Elect Obama has promised to close Guantánamo Bay detention center, but creating a process for trying and releasing the more than 250 remaining prisoners that is constitutional, timely, and safe will be complicated and difficult after years of the Bush administration’s fear-mongering. We must provide vocal support for such efforts to counteract this culture of fear.
5. If we don’t fight to undo the damage to civil liberties, human rights, and other constitutional protections now, it will only get worse in the future.
